New York (NY)

Spanish sculptor and abstract painter Cristina Avello will participate in Context New York from May 3-7  invited by galería Lucía Mendoza (Madrid).

Cristina presents her wood sculptures from the series "Olas de Mujer" ("Waves of Womanhood").

Her work is inspired by woman and by their constant quest on finding their balance.  According to the artist, there are days and ***** where balance is nowhere to be seen and we find ourselves in a chaotic internal state. Feelings, doubts, fear, anxiety crush deep inside as waves do against a wall. Other days, usually those when we stop demanding and testing our limits, when we are more benevolent and accept ourselves, we then thrive and find our balance. Those magical and ephemeral moments create a sensual and delicate harmony which makes us seem lighter. Its beauty resides in its fragility.

Cristina’s work emerges from the space within her that craves harmony and attempts to capture the inner beauty of all those emotions, feelings, energy, and tensions. It tries to depict the peace and balance that we savor in those brief and magical moments when our world aligns.

Context New York is from May 3rd - May 7th  at Pier 94 (55th Street and West Side Highway).

Hours: VIP Wednesday May 3, 2:00-8:00PM; General admission Wed 5:00-8:00PM; Thurs, Fri and Sat 12:00-8:00PM and Sun 12:00-6:00PM.
