Open Call for Spanish Musicians: The European Month of Culture at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. New Deadline!

"The European Month of Culture" highlights the diverse cultures of the 28 European Union Member States. Musical performances, art exhibits and tours, film screenings, and lectures take place at the National Gallery of Art, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Phillips Collection, American University, EU Embassies, EU Cultural Institutes, and other venues.

To many people the European Union may seem like an abstract idea; yet, there is no better way to illustrate the European ideal of joining forces, than to combine the rich heritage of each country into a month of cultural offerings. These events radiate out from Europe Day (May 9), which commemorates the historic Declaration that led to the formation of the EU. “United in Diversity”, the EU motto, is exemplified beautifully by the talents of the many artists who offer their gifts to the Washington community and visitors.

As part of the Kennedy Center’s Performing Arts for Everyone program, more than 400 free performances are offered each year featuring international, national, and local artists. These include daily 6 p.m. concerts on the Millennium Stage -now in its 17th year -which are streamed live over the Internet and digitally archived.

For the “European Month of Culture” 2014 edition, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is looking for Spanish musicians to play at the Millennium Stage on May 13th. The Kennedy Center will provide the venue, support services, publicity and video recording of the event.

To participate, send us a résumé and samples of your work through vídeos and/or a link to your Website to opencalls@spainculture.us [Subject: European Month of Culture] before February 14th. SPAIN arts & culture will cover the travel expenses, accommodation and per diems of the selected musician(s).
