CLASSICAL WETA CALL WINNER ARTIST
On Monday, March 24, 2014, The Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. will host a concert and reception in honor of WETA’s Friends of Classical Music as a part of WETA’s Leadership Circle Salon Series. WETA’s Friends of Classical Music comprise of a group of major donors who have a passion for classical music and whose donations help to support Classical WETA 90.9 FM. Hosted by His Excellency The Ambassador of Spain Ramón Gil-Casares and WETA’s President and CEO Sharon Percy Rockefeller, approximately 100 of Washington, D.C.’s philanthropists will attend this exclusive event at the Ambassador’s residence.

Nominated for the Prince of Girona Prize for the Arts 2012 and 2013, the most important Awards for a young musician in Spain, sponsored by the Botín Foundation (Banco de Santander), the 23 years old Spanish pianist Francisco Fierro is considered one of the great promises of the piano in Europe. Despite his age, he has already performed in several European countries and also in the United States. Soon he will be touring also in Latin America. Francisco is also well known and respected as a great improviser, often improvising at concerts.
Born in Madrid in 1990, did not begin his musical education until age 12, in the Conservatory of Intermediate Level Padre Antonio Soler in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a wellknown and prestigious Conservatory from where surged a part of the greats performers in last years in Spain. At this stage he started to hold his first concerts and recitals. His first piano teacher was D. Juan Crespo.
In 2008, at age of 17, made his debut with orchestra at a great Auditorium and conducted by Giuseppe Mancini, playing the Concerto No. 20 in d minor by W.A. Mozart. That same year he entered the High Conservatory of Salamanca taking classes simultaneously with several teachers, and increasing his concert activity.
At the same time he met Galina Eguiazarova, professor at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, who exerts great influence over him and that is his tutor during a few years
Francisco Fierro is devoted as well to composition and improvisation, activities for which he has gained public recognition. In every concert he performs, he plays some new work. In hardly eight years he has completed his musical education, he has made national and international courses in which he received classes from, Eldar Nebolsin, Daniel del Pino, Patricia Montero, Kalle Randallu, Ferenc Rados, Alberto Portugheis and Galina Eguiazarova among others, and has played numerous concerts and recitals in some of major theaters and auditoriums.
On several occasions he has taken part in live recordings and colloquia on classical music in different radio stations and television channels and his performances and his music have been broadcast in Europe. At the end of 2010 he recorded a series of videos for different televisions in Spain and the USA which are already being broadcast on national and international channels.
His passion for music has led him to the Presidency of the EPTA in Spain (European Piano Teachers Association) in young EPTA, the most important Association for pianists and piano teachers in Europe and his high sensitivity, to perform numerous concerts and musical events for charity.
