Acclaimed by critics and loved by audiences, it wasn’t long before [REC] became a phenomenon. The good reviews, coupled with a smart and innovative online marketing campaign, created an unexpected blockbuster: 1.5 million spectators and a B.O. of more than $10M for a film that cost just over $1,3M €. [REC], written and directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, won two Goya Awards (the Spanish Academy Awards): Best New Actress (Manuela Velasco) and Best Editing (David Gallart), a triumph for a genre, the horror, considered minor and barely represented in this ceremony. Since then, the horror genre has a new life in the Spanish cinema.
The master of the Spanish Horror will join us for an after-screening discussion on the origin of the successful REC-Franchise.
